Part of 14-18 NOW, WW1 Centenary Art Commissions, LIGHTS OUT have invited artists to create large-scale, site-specific artworks at locations across the UK.
In a dramatic UK-wide event LIGHTS OUT is an invitation to everyone to turn off their lights from 10pm to 11pm on 4th August, leaving on a single light or candle for this shared moment of reflection.
“The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our life-time”
- Sir Edward Grey - British Foreign Secretary 1905 to 1916
As part of our Big Picture Project, Iconic buildings in key cities across the UK will have the simple image of a of a candle projected onto their facades.
This powerful and enduring image provides an impressive and highly visual means to compliment and realise the LIGHTS OUT initiative. The project is entirely scalable and simple to deploy across the UK.
These large scale projections will provide an apt point of focus in each city and a visual hub to the commemoration.
As appropriate the projections will be complimented by a prologue of information graphics.
We are going to be projecting info-graphics as a prologue to an hour Long lamp show across London and the UK. For up to moment details follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
